Don’t confuse Thai Curry Paste with it's Indian cousin, curry powder. The flavor profiles are quite different. Thai Curry Paste has a complex flavor coming from the tang of lemongrass, the familiar bite of garlic, shallots and ginger, the zing of lime and the heat of chilies.
You just have to try it for yourself.
Curry paste doesn’t just taste good. The potent herbs in curry paste are thought to:
• Aid digestion
• Have antioxidant properties
• Decrease blood pressure
• Fight colds and flu
• Even stimulate lactation
The color of the chili peppers determines the color of the paste.
Green curry paste is hot! Its fiery taste blends well with coconut milk (also available at the Spicy Peach) to season beef or chicken.
Red curry paste also has a kick, but is more mild than the green. Use the red curry paste to add an exotic Thai flavor to all different foods.
1) Cook stews and curries, of course. Warm the curry paste in a little oil, then coat proteins and vegetables with the warmed paste. Add coconut milk and slow cook until everything is flavorful and tender. Serve over rice.
2) Combine it with canned crushed tomatoes and use as a pizza sauce.
3) Blend curry paste into a vinaigrette, whisk it into mayonnaise, add it to ketchup or mix it with chummus for a delicious dressing, dip, or spread.
